1. Power supply status of communication base station


The communication base station is composed of communication equipment, base station power supply, battery pack and machine room air conditioner. The base station equipment adopts DC - 48V working power supply, which is provided by the base station power supply and battery pack. The 380V AC working power supply is used for the power supply of the base station and the air conditioner of the machine room, and the AC power supply is provided by the mains under normal conditions; In case of mains power failure, the generator will provide AC power supply.


2. Problems in power supply technology


The power supply technology of communication base station uses generators, wind energy, electric energy and other methods to generate power after the mains power failure, which can meet the normal operation of the communication equipment of the base station, but there are shortcomings.


1. Traditional power supply technology



(1) The weight of the generator equipment is relatively large, and the weight of the equipment with the main power of 3.4kW is about 200kg, which is difficult to carry and transport;


(2) The generator equipment uses diesel oil as the main energy source, which has low power generation efficiency, twice the cost of municipal electricity, and produces pollution;

2. Wind solar complementary power supply technology

However, due to the large geographical location and climate factors, it has a small scope of application and cannot meet the power supply requirements of most base stations.


(2) The endurance of solar energy is relatively poor. When the wind is small or the light is insufficient, only the traditional mains and generator power supply technologies can be used to power the base station.




3. Design idea of portable energy storage equipment


1. Equipment composition


The portable energy storage equipment is used to replace the diesel generator to generate power for the communication base station. It is an energy-saving and environment-friendly alternative power generation product, as shown in the figure. The device mainly includes energy storage equipment, control management device, battery charging protection control device, fast interface, etc.

Energy storage equipment: multiple energy storage units are installed inside. The energy storage unit has the online replacement function and good endurance, which can continuously supply power for the communication load of the base station. The energy storage unit is installed inside the portable equipment rack for easy transportation.


The energy storage unit uses lithium iron battery for energy storage. The lithium iron battery uses lithium iron phosphate as the cathode material. The single battery has the characteristics of high working voltage, low self discharge, many charge discharge cycles, and good high temperature. It has the advantages of long life, small size, light weight, no pollution, etc. It can meet the use requirements as a backup power supply for communication, and can better solve the main problems existing in the use of traditional lead-acid batteries. Therefore, the use of lithium iron batteries can effectively reduce the volume of energy storage equipment, reduce the weight of equipment, and increase the portability of equipment.

2. Equipment characteristics

The characteristics of portable energy storage equipment are analyzed as follows

(1) The portable energy storage unit adopts - 48V/50Ah iron lithium battery pack to replace the traditional lead-acid battery. The energy volume ratio of the iron lithium battery is 2.2~2.3 times that of the traditional lead-acid battery, and the energy weight ratio is 2.6~3.2 times that of the traditional lead-acid battery. The size of the energy storage unit is only (L × H × D)442mm × 145mm × 300mm, weight 31.8kg. At the same time, the box is designed as a trolley case or a strap, which increases the mobility of the equipment and is convenient for maintenance personnel to carry and transport.

(2) The power supply continuity portable energy storage equipment can meet the power supply continuity of the base station. Taking the base station in a province as an example, there are about 30000 base stations in the province, of which 80% of the base station equipment power is less than 2.0kW. Therefore, when the generator is powered, the base station air conditioning equipment is required to be used for refrigeration, increasing the power supply cost.

Due to its good high temperature resistance, the iron lithium battery can work normally in the range of 0~40 ℃, reduce the operating cost of air conditioning, and achieve the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction.

(4) Low noise portable energy storage equipment uses batteries for discharge. Compared with traditional generators, it has no noise pollution and no problem of disturbing residents. It is suitable for urban residential areas.

(5) Pollution-free emission improves the problem of pollutant emission of existing generators. It has no waste gas and is green.



4. Power supply system access scheme


The portable energy storage equipment shall be carried by the equipment maintenance personnel to replace the diesel generator for power generation after the mains power of the communication base station is cut off. After the mains power is cut off, as shown in the figure, the maintenance personnel connect the portable energy storage equipment to the base station power supply system through the DC fast interface, and connect the control manager with the base station power supply battery charging protection controller to realize the parallel control between the base station power supply and the energy storage equipment.

Access to energy storage equipment: After the base station is connected to the power system of the base station with a portable energy storage equipment, the control manager uses the base station power supply battery charge protection controller to protect the base station battery from charging (discharging is allowed, charging is not allowed), and the energy storage unit supplies power to the base station load.


Control of energy storage unit replacement: when the voltage of the energy storage unit is less than the set value, send the warning information of energy storage unit replacement to the staff, and the maintenance personnel will replace the module with low electric energy online, and the control manager will realize the parallel discharge control between the new and old modules.


Exit management: After the mains power is restored, the switching power supply of the base station will restore the power supply to the base station equipment, and the battery charging management of the base station will be restored. The energy storage equipment is automatically shut down and the mains power supply mechanism of the base station is restored.


5. Application analysis of energy storage equipment

The use of portable energy storage equipment instead of generator for power supply has obvious advantages, and the main performance comparison is shown in the figure.

Using portable energy storage equipment instead of diesel generator can effectively save operating costs. The power generation cost is about 2.4 yuan/kWh if the generator is used for power supply, and 1.2 yuan/kWh if the energy storage equipment is used for power supply, which is about half of the power generation cost.


Taking a provincial base station as an example, there are about 30000 base stations in the province. If each base station generates power for 8 kWh per month, 30000 power generation operation costs can be saved every year × 8kWh × 12 months × (2.4-1.2) yuan/kWh=3456000 yuan. If the power consumption of the base station air conditioner during power generation is also considered, the cost savings will be more obvious.
