According to the European Market Outlook for Residential Battery Storage 2022-2026. released by SolarPower Europe Association, the installed capacity of residential energy storage in Europe is expected to reach 3.9GWh in 2022, up 71% from 2021.

The report predicts that the median installed capacity of European household energy storage in 2022 is estimated to be 3.9GWh. In the next four years, it is estimated that the installed capacity will be 4.5GWh in 2023, 5.1GWh in 2024, 6GWh in 2025 and 7.3GWh in 2026.
The report predicts that the new installed capacity of the top five EU markets in 2022-2026 (median expected) is divided into Germany 10.65GWh, Italy 5.5GWh, Poland 1.75GWh, Austria 1.7GWh, and the UK 1.65GWh.

In 2021, the top four consumer energy storage markets in Europe were Germany, Italy, Austria and the United Kingdom, with a total installed capacity of 1.9GWh of consumer energy storage, accounting for 84% of the installed capacity of 2.3GWh in Europe that year.

In 2022, it is expected to increase by 14% compared with 2021, and the annual installed capacity will reach 1.5GWh (median estimate).
Italian household energy storage market
In 2021, the installed capacity of household energy storage in Italy will reach 321MWh, which is the second largest household energy storage market in Europe. The 110% superbonus subsidy started in July 2020 is the main driving force for the rapid growth of household energy storage in Italy. In 2022, it is expected to increase by 246% compared with 2021, and the annual installed capacity will reach 1.1GWh (median estimate).
