Recently, China's first mobile large-capacity full-scene battery energy storage station, Hebei Baoding Battery Energy Storage Station of China Southern Power Grid, was officially put into commercial operation. The battery energy storage station is located in Baoding National High-tech Industrial Development Zone, with a power of 6MW, a capacity of more than 7.2MWh and a conversion efficiency of 98%. The operation of the power station marks the success of the research on the key technologies of high-voltage cascade in China, and effectively solves the problem of fixed restrictions on the application scenarios of battery energy storage stations.

Previously, China's battery energy storage stations mainly used low-voltage 380V energy storage system, which was boosted to 10kV by transformer and then incorporated into the grid for energy storage and generation. Different from the traditional energy storage station, the Hebei Baoding Battery Energy Storage Station of China Southern Power Grid applied the high-voltage cascade chain energy storage converter topology for the first time, and directly connected the battery pack to the 10kV high-voltage AC system through module cascade. The energy storage station is designed as a container, and each battery is equipped with a transport base. It becomes the first mobile battery energy storage station in China without supporting transformer, which can be flexibly "moved" at any time.


The demonstration construction of the power station has achieved three "firsts" in the field of electrochemical energy storage in China: the cascade structure of "H bridge" has been used for the first time, which can achieve the same energy storage efficiency while significantly reducing the number of energy storage systems; It is the first time to research and apply the thermal barrier technology between battery clusters to conduct pressure insulation and fire insulation treatment for the battery cabinet, and install thermal insulation panels between the battery arrays, which greatly extends the rescue buffer time to 60 minutes in extreme cases such as fire; The key technology of black start of mobile large-capacity battery energy storage station has been conquered for the first time, which can provide flexible, fast and reliable black start power service for local power grid.


Such a mobile large-capacity battery energy storage station with mature control technology and stable safety performance can be applied to various electrochemical energy storage scenarios. On the power supply side, the power station can smooth the fluctuation of new energy output and provide reserve capacity; On the grid side, the power station can improve the power distribution of the transmission and distribution network to meet the temporary power supply demand in special periods such as equipment maintenance and line ice melting; On the user side, the power station can effectively adjust the load in the seasonal area, and serve as the emergency power supply for grid emergencies, spring transportation and other periodic events. In addition, the power station can also be used as a performance test platform for grid connection of energy storage products, providing large-capacity power supply for performance comparison of different energy storage products.
