From the scenic base in the Gobi Desert in the northwest to the pumped storage power station in the northeast, a number of major new energy projects have been intensively started recently. Grasping the "air gap" in multiple places has led to new trends in industrial layout. Trillion-level tracks such as hydrogen energy and energy storage are slowly unfolding, not only providing a strong guarantee for energy security, but also injecting impetus into economic growth.
A batch of major projects are under construction
In March, the Gobi Desert, not far from the Yellow River shore, was accelerated to be covered by a "photovoltaic ocean".
As the first batch of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases in the country, the 2 million kilowatt composite photovoltaic base project of the National Energy Group Ningxia Electric Power Company achieved the first phase of grid connection power generation at the end of last year. Not long ago, its supporting 100 MW/200 MWh energy storage power station was successfully connected to the grid, becoming the largest centralized electrochemical energy storage power station in the National Energy Group.
Currently, new energy has surpassed thermal power as the largest power source in Ningxia. Since being identified as the country's first comprehensive demonstration zone for new energy in 2012, the installed capacity of wind power and photovoltaic power in Ningxia has successively exceeded 10 million kilowatts.
In the context of the accelerated transformation of global energy to low-carbon, China's new energy industry has become a bright spot in economic development. Recently, a number of major projects have been intensively commenced across the country, presenting a scene of intense enthusiasm everywhere.
Previously, the Longdong Shandong ± 800 kV UHV DC transmission project of State Grid Corporation of China and the Yumen Pumped Storage Power Station were started. The former is the first large-scale comprehensive energy base transmission project with "integration of wind, electricity, fire, and storage" in China, while the latter is the first large-scale ground plant pumping and storage project in China. The total investment of the two projects is 30.4 billion yuan. After being put into operation, it can replace 6 million tons of coal consumption annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 16 million tons.
Hydrogen energy storage has become a hot track
New energy is an inevitable choice to accelerate the construction of a new energy system and achieve sustainable development in the future. The vigorous construction of major projects has played a symphony of accelerated development.
Many regions are also seizing the opportunity to accelerate the layout of new energy industries, and the coupling development of "new energy+coal power" and "new energy+energy storage hydrogen energy" has become an important direction. According to incomplete statistics, nearly 30 provinces across the country have issued new energy storage plans or new energy allocation and storage documents for the "14th Five Year Plan", and dozens of provinces (cities) and regions have issued development plans, implementation plans, or action plans for the hydrogen energy industry. New types of energy storage that can improve the power regulation and security capabilities have also become an important support for the development of new energy. At the beginning of this year, Ningxia's grid side energy storage and grid connection capacity took the lead in breaking through one million kilowatts nationwide. "It is expected that by the end of the '14th Five Year Plan', the installed capacity of new energy power generation in Ningxia is expected to reach 60 million kilowatts, with the proportion of installed power generation expected to exceed 60%. We are guiding the layout and construction of energy storage power stations, unified scheduling to ensure the efficient use of energy storage facilities, ensure the achievement of new energy utilization targets and the full time balance of electricity and electricity." said Mi Ning, Deputy Chief Engineer of State Grid Ningxia Electric Power Co., Ltd.
Multiple links in the industrial chain need to be improved
According to the plan, the total installed capacity of wind and solar power in China will reach over 1.2 billion kilowatts by 2030. Among them, the total scale of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases focusing on the "Sage Wasteland" region has reached 455 million kilowatts, equivalent to the installed capacity of 20 Three Gorges hydropower stations.
